Supporting Wellbeing During the Cost of Living Crisis
The cost of living is forcing people to make difficult choices every day. For many people, dental care is one of the first things to be pushed aside. Not because it is not important, but because it feels unaffordable.
At Strong, we regularly hear from people who have not seen a dentist in years due to cost, anxiety, or lack of access. Oral health matters more than people realise, and when it is neglected it can have a real impact on confidence, mental wellbeing, and day-to-day life.
Why this matters right now
Dental pain, discomfort, or embarrassment does not exist in isolation. It can affect sleep, social interaction, and how people feel about themselves. When someone is already under financial pressure, these issues can quickly become overwhelming.
During a cost of living crisis, health support should feel accessible, not like a luxury.
A practical option when money is tight
The University of Lancashire has launched a low cost dentistry service, providing treatment carried out by dental students who are closely supervised by experienced professionals.
This creates a safe and regulated option for people who may not currently have a dentist or who have been putting off treatment due to cost. For many in our communities, this removes a significant barrier and offers a realistic way to prioritise health without added stress.
Why Strong is sharing this
Strong Football Community exists to support wellbeing in a way that feels real and grounded. Football brings people together, but we also recognise that wellbeing is shaped by many factors, including access to basic services.
If you have been delaying dental care because of cost, anxiety, or uncertainty, this could be a positive first step.
You deserve access to care that supports your health and confidence, even during a cost of living crisis.
And if you are looking for connection, routine, or a supportive space, Strong sessions are always here. Whether it is football, conversation, or simply being around others, you are welcome.
